Abstract
The increasing automation of very high voltage electrical centres requires
abundant transmission of information between various points in the plant. The
transmission of information in these centres presents special problems owing
to the strong electrical fields, large ground voltage differences between terminals
and radioelectric interferences caused by the corona effect and arcing:
all these are difficult to solve using conventional means.
Optical fibre transmissions are the ideal solution for this type of installation.
Thi3 paper describes the optical fi'.Jre installation made in a 400 kV
substation and the experiences obtained during two years' operation.
