Abstract
Ceramic phase-to-phase spacers have been
employed to prevent gal loping on 275kV overhead
transmission lines since 1989 in Hokkaido Electric
Power Co., Inc.
After these phase-to-phase spacers were
attached, phase-short circuit due to galloping
have not taken place.
But the weight of this spacer is heavy because
the ceramic long rod is used as a insulator. This
heaviness it makes problems that the height of
conductor from ground can not be gained to
safety level in case of thin conductors,
reinforcement of Tower angle parts increases and
so on.
To cope with those, we developed phase-to- phase spacer with nonceramic insulator instead of
of ceramic one so that we can reduce the weight of
phase-to-phase spacer.
Through tests on its fundamental performance
which are mechanical and electrical strength,
it was proved that nonceramic phase-to-phase spacer
reached a practical level.
The developed spacers were attached on 275kV
transmission lines with double conductors, only 1
span, in 1992. And the observation has been
done to size up the efects of those spacers.
This report mainly describes the results of
electric performance test including condition of
icing.
