Аннотация
The article points out the contradiction between damage statistics of high voltage transmission line insulator
strings and the results of insulator arc resistance tests carried_ out in laboratories in the traditional way. In order
to eliminate this contradiction the rules governing the movements of short-circuit arcs on high voltage insulators
are investigated in a high power laboratory. On the basis of the results of these investigations the article suggests
a new positioning of the fuse wire, a cu"ent range for test, a circuit set-up and other test circumstances yielding a
better co"espondence with the actual stresses of insulator strings in networks.
