Abstract
Jorge Luis Borges translated the novel Orlando: A Biography, by Virginia Woolf, nine years after the publication of the original work in 1928. This rendition displays a series of translation techniques that are peculiar and, even to this day, innovative. The translation procedures used by Borges assign the translator the role of transcreator, becoming a sort of architect who builds and rewrites Woolf's “version”. Similarly, as an extension of this idea, this paper intends to review Borges' approach to gender issues posed by Woolf in her novel. The personal character that the Argentinian writer printed on the appropriation of his translated work is deemed a rewriting slanted by his own vision of the world around him.
