Abstract
Most public and private organizations are currently confronted with a drain of their
critical knowledge as the result of high retirement numbers among their experts. Even though
organizations can rely on a multitude of means and tools to support the retention of this fund
of knowledge, they continue to hesitate to use such tools, being unsure of how to optimize or
integrate them into the workplace. In this article, we describe a strategic approach based on
the knowledge retention cycle that can be of value for identifying both important knowledge
as well as the appropriate tools to be implemented in order to preserve it.
