Weekly Science Research Journal, (May 2014)

Abstract

The present study was planned to assess the acute toxicity of D. stramonium. B. bengalensis rats were orally administrated single dose of 20, 40, 60 and 80 ml/kg of seed extract of D. stramonium. Signs accompanying toxicity and possibly death of animals were monitored for one day to ascertain the median lethal dose (LD50) of the extract and were determined using a Lork's method. The LD50 was found to be 60 ml/kg body weight. There was a significant weight decrease P value. Seed extract 80 ml/kg of D. stramonium gave 100% mortality of B. bengalensis. The humanness assessment study revealed that this plant origin, chemical caused low pain and suffering to the target pests. The safety usage of extracts from this plant in traditional medicine.
