Abstract

This volume from the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), which comprises 56 countries in Europe, North America, the Caucasus, and Central Asia, provides an overview of the social and economic structure of each country and territory through tables and statistics on items such as population, GDP, economic activity rate, and consumer price index. This edition includes new indicators on adolescent fertility, mean age of women at birth of first child, women in part-time employment, women researchers, computer use, employment by occupation, participation in public life, transport infrastructure, and road accidents. It uses data collected from national and international sources for the most recent year available, usually 2007. Most of the data is also available online. Readers do not need to be familiar with statistical terminology or interpretation.
