Jamming Percolation and Glass Transition in Lattice Models

Abstract

We will introduce a lattice gas model with kinetic constraints, the Spiral Model, for which a dynamical glass transition occurs at a finite critical density, $\rho_c$. Above $\rho_c$ ergodicity is broken due to the discontinuous appearance of an infinite spanning cluster of jammed particles. Furthermore, the crossover length diverges exponentially as $\rho_c$ is approached from below and the dynamical correlations display a two-step relaxation. We will explain how the mechanism at the root of this peculiar phenomena is related to the underlying occurrence of an unconventional percolation transition. Finally, we will discuss the common features of the Spiral Model transition with the liquid/glass and other jamming transitions.
