Zusammenfassung
This Paper reports on a preliminary series of phase-to-phase switching impulse tests performed, in the
summer of 1977, on the 1 km test line in the UHV experimental area of E'NEL in Suvereto.
The line, consisting of a central span 510 m long, with two portal towers 60 m high, and two terminal half
spans 250 m long, was equipped, for the tests, with two bundles of 6 and 8 subconductors.
Phase-to-phase tests were carried out on the conductor-conductor configuration, with clearances between 7
and 16 m.
A 6 MV impulse generator and a 2 transformer cascade, with 1.6 MV rated voltage, were used to produce
the test voltages.
The influence of various parameters, such as the distribution of the voltage between the two phases, the time
to crest of the positive impulse, the time shift between the crests of the negative and positive impulses, and the
height of the conductors above the ground plane, was investigated.
The first considerations that may be put forward after these preliminary test results are outlined in the
Paper, and comparison is made with similar data available for conductors of shorter length.
The statistical method is tentatively applied for a preliminary estimate of the phase-to-phase clearances of
UHV lines.
