Abstract
A scaling analysis of the stretching of collapsed polymer brushes
is presented. The stretching is associated with a first-order phase
transition involving a coexistence of a collapsed layer and stretched
chain segments. The coexistence regime is characterized by a f approximately
L0 force law. Linear force laws are found for weaker as well as for
stronger deformations.
