Library Technology Guides delivers objective information on library automation. Find information on library companies and vendors, Integrated Library Systems (ILS) or Library Management Systems (LMS), Open Source and Proprietary products.
Today library users often have to cope with different search masks when looking for specific information in catalogues, databases and repositories. One way of making research simpler is to implement a tool based on search engine technology, which covers all integrated sources with only one query. The aim of this thesis is to describe the experiences of libraries in the German-speaking area, currently using Primo by Ex Libris.
"The OLE and Ex Libris URM projects continue to sustain the vendor and content neutrality that has been a hallmark of traditional library software, updated to use newer technology. It will be fascinating to see what values libraries choose to prioritize. Will it be perceived low cost and convenience or will it be content and vendor neutrality, i.e. the ability to negotiate low prices coupled with the traditional need to protect privileged data that will continue to weigh heavily into their future decisions? It's an important decision."
