Youtuber zu werden, das ist der Wunsch vieler Jugendlicher. Seit dem Video von Rezo vor der Europawahl hat auch die breite Öffentlichkeit ein besseres Bild von diesem Beruf. Die IG Metall arbeitet neuerdings mit der „Youtubers‘ Union“ zusammen, die die Interessen von Kreativen auf dem Videoportal vertritt. Inzwischen hat die Gruppe mehr als 19.000 Mitglieder. Sie kritisiert, der Konzern aus Kalifornien würde zunehmend wirtschaftlichen Druck auf Youtuber ausüben, dabei extrem intransparent agieren und so womöglich illegal handeln. Rechtsanwalt Thomas Klebe ist Arbeitsrechtler am Hugo-Sinzheimer-Institut der Hans-Böckler-Stiftung.
Die Kampagne FairTube fordert Transparenz, unabhängige Schlichtungen und Mitsprache für YouTuber. Dahinter stehen die Organisation YouTubers Union und die Gewerkschaft IG Metall. Falls der Konzern in einem Monat keine Verhandlungen begonnen hat, will FairTube ihn verklagen – wegen Scheinselbstständigkeit und DSGVO-Verstößen.
