Introduction: Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children and adolescents is commonly managed in primary care. Changes in United States health care have led to the integration of behavioral health services within a patient’s “medical home” to improve access to, engagement in, and continuity of quality health care. Despite proliferation of these integrated care models, no studies have specifically examined models for managing ADHD in children and adolescents within primary care.. Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) rating scales typically provide normative tables arranged according to child age, child gender, and type of informant, which facilitates addressing the fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Health Disorders developmental deviance requirement for diagnosing ADHD. Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and head injury (including traumatic brain injury (TBI)) manifest in high levels across prison samples and guidance from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence notes that people with acquired brain injury may have increased prevalence of ADHD. We aimed to examine the association of ADHD with TBI and the impact of the association upon health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and service use among imprisoned adults.
Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is highly prevalent amongst prison inmates and the criminal justice system (CJS) likely bears considerable costs for offenders with ADHD. We aimed to examine the relationship between ADHD and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and quality-adjusted life years (QALY) amongst imprisoned adults; and to estimate the annual expenditure associated with ADHD status in prison.
Samuele Cortese is impressed by a recent RCT of QbTest: a computerised test of attention and activity, which can improve diagnostic decision-making in ADHD.
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a common reason for referral to Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), but families experience long delays between first professional contact and diagnosis, which risks development of secondary impairments. This study explores the agreement between clinician and research diagnoses of ADHD among children attending CAMHS, and their access to interventions. From the limited literature, we anticipated fluctuation and delays, but no other study has focused prospectively on ADHD diagnoses.. Although the media reported this as though it were a new finding, this link was already known from previous research. ADHD is a complex condition, and its causes are not fully understood. Environmental factors – such as whether a child was born prematurely – and genetics are thought to play a role.
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) has long been a contentious and polarising issue in mental health care. Mental health nurses are regularly responsible for the care, treatment and care coordination of individuals with a diagnosis of ADHD. This means that mental health nurses are in one of the best positions to have a positive impact on the lives of people with ADHD. This article aims to be a refresher to mental health nurses of the lifetime health outcomes and risks associated with ADHD. This article discusses a multitude of factors, such as increased rates of substance abuse and addiction, higher instances of self-harm and suicide, reduced life expectancy, increased driving risk, poorer educational outcomes, and reduced professional outcomes. The role of the mental health nurse is central in supporting service users to seek appropriate, evidence-based treatment. Improving mental health nurses' understanding and information will enable practitioners to make informed decisions regarding the care and treatment of service users. This study aimed to identify content commonalities and differences among the ICF Core Sets for cerebral palsy (CP), and the newly developed Core Sets for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and attention‐deficit–hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)..
