The Federal Government produces an immeasurable amount of data each day. DataMasher helps citizens have a little fun with those data by creating mashups to visualize them in different ways and see how states compare on important issues. Users can combine different data sets in interesting ways and create their own custom rankings of the states.
The Social Science Data Analysis Network (SSDAN) is a university-based organization that creates demographic media, such as user guides, web sites, and hands-on classroom computer materials that make U.S. census data accessible to policymakers, educators, the media, and informed citizens. SSDAN is directed by demographer William H. Frey and utilizes facilities at the Population Studies Center, University of Michigan.
In the decentralized Indian Statistical System official statistics are available from different wings of the government both at the Centre and States/Uts. The Ministry of Statistics acts as the nodal agency for coordination and development of official statistics. It is proposed to develop the website of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation as a single point contact for accessing key official statistics on key indicators. It is also planned to provide access to data users to the large databases available from National Sample Surveys, Annual Survey of Industries, Economic Census etc to enable them critically analyze it derive findings from these databases. The National Data Warehouse set up by the Computer Centre uses advanced tools of Cognos Software for the design, development and deployment of the Data Warehouse.
Data are currently stored as spreadsheets. Data include some series not found anywhere else. Eventually we intend to establish a searchable, menu-driven database. The data we currently have are only a beginning, more extensive than in other free sources, but sparse in an absolute sense. We are gathering data as time and convenience allow, and welcome help.

The Committee on National Statistics (CNSTAT) was established at the National Academies in 1972 at the recommendation of the President’s Commission on Federal Statistics. Its original mandate was to provide an independent and objective resource for evaluating and improving the work of the highly decentralized U.S. federal statistical system. While it continues to fulfill this mandate, the work of CNSTAT has expanded to include undertaking studies from a broad range of research and program agencies of the federal government. The Committee’s mission is to improve the statistical methods and information on which public policy decisions are based. It works to improve the data collection and estimation methods for a wide range of federal statistical activities, to further the application of statistics to better implement and evaluate federal programs, and to improve statistical methods for application to public affairs and to social, economic, and other scientific research.
