SmartFrog is a powerful and flexible Java-based software framework for configuring, deploying and managing distributed software systems.
SmartFrog helps you to encapsulate and manage systems so they are easy to configure and reconfigure, and so that that they can be automatically installed, started and shut down. It provides orchestration capabilities so that subsystems can be started (and stopped) in the right order. It also helps you to detect and recover from failures.
Such systems typically have multiple software components running across a network of computing resources, where the components must work together to deliver the functionality of the system as a whole. It's critical that the right components are running in the right places, that the components are individually and collectively correctly configured, and that they are correctly combined to create the complete system. This profile fits many of the services and applications that run on today's computing infrastructures.
SmartFrog consists of:
A Language for defining configurations, providing powerful system modelling capabilities and an expressive notation for describing system configurations
A secure, distributed Runtime System for deploying software components and managing running software systems
A Library of SmartFrog Components that implement the SmartFrog component model and provide a wide range of services and functionality
The Internet Communications Engine (Ice) is a modern object-oriented middleware with support for C++, .NET, Java, Python, Objective-C, Ruby, and PHP. Ice is used in many mission-critical projects by companies all over the world. Ice is easy to learn, yet provides a powerful network infrastructure and vast array of features for demanding technical applications. Ice is free software, available with full source, and released under the terms of GNU General Public License (GPL). Commercial licenses are available for customers who wish to use Ice for closed-source software.
JumboMem provides a low-effort solution to the problem of running memory-hungry programs on memory-starved computers. The JumboMem software gives programs access to memory spread across multiple computers, providing the illusion that all of the memory resides within a single computer. When a program exceeds the memory in one computer, it automatically spills over into the memory of the next computer.
Fedora open source software gives organizations a flexible service-oriented architecture for managing and delivering their digital content. At its core is a powerful digital object model that supports multiple views of each digital object and the relationships among digital objects. Digital objects can encapsulate locally-managed content or make reference to remote content. Dynamic views are possible by associating web services with objects. Digital objects exist within a repository architecture that supports a variety of management functions. All functions of Fedora, both at the object and repository level, are exposed as web services. These functions can be protected with fine-grained access control policies.
