This is an account of my experiences becoming unwell and accessing general and mental health services in Ireland. It traces this experience from initial contact with my general practitioner, to admission to a secure psychiatric ward where recovery slowly began. It is hoped that this lived narrative of my recovery will shed light on accessing mental health services from a dual lens; that of service user and social worker. While mental health professionals have focused on concerns about whether antidepressants work on a neurochemical level it is important to understand the meaning this medication holds in the lives of people who use it. This study explores diversity in the experience of antidepressant users.
Siblings often play important roles in the lives of people with intellectual disabilities.
This study suggests that young adults who have siblings in residential care can feel isolated in their experience.
Adolescence appears to be a turning point and a time when siblings become aware of future caretaking responsibilities.

The existing psychosocial Support activities in the Northern Territory, Australia, are mostly delivered through individualised outreach and client-centred Support programs and do not currently have a strong Peer focus.
