The following post is an attempt to develop a regular writing routine after some extended leave and was catalysed by some recent readings and thinking.

The multidisciplinary team from the faculties of Education and Information Technology and Electrical Engineering got together to create and implement a new online learning analytics course at the University of Oulu. The goal of the course was to offer students multidisciplinary information on learning analytics applications in different contexts, and to develop and test the materials and design of the course.
This session was led by Juan Pablo Sarmiento and introduces learning analytics researchers and practitioners to a collection of tools that can be used to scaffold the effective and authentic participation of stakeholders in the design, implementation and evaluation of Learning Analytics systems.
Fact-based information modeling language (see http://orm.net), relational mapper, and fact-oriented database query/update implementation to replace ActiveRecord, supporting a higher level of schema design abstraction, performance and concurrency.
