Sun will mit seinem neuen Programm Open Source Community Innovation Awards in den nächsten Jahren mehrere Millionen US-Dollar als Preisgelder für Open-Source-Entwickler aussetzen. Dabei geht es vor allem um die Weiterentwicklung von Sun-Projekten: Im kommenden Jahr sollen Preise für Commmunity-Entwicklungen im Rahmen von GlassFish, NetBeans, OpenJDK, OpenOffice.org, OpenSolaris und OpenSPARC in Höhe von insgesamt "mindestens einer Million Dollar" vergeben werden. Details will Sun Anfang 2008 bekannt geben.
