While Plagiarism can be intentional, it is more often caused by misunderstanding. Avoiding it means understanding the role of intellectual property and what makes plagiarism wrong. This video teaches:
•Why giving credit to others is necessary
•A definition of plagiarism
•Steps to avoiding plagiarism
•Types of ideas and media that can be plagiarized
"The Frankfurter Rundschau reports in a short notice that the University of Heidelberg Medical School has decided that a medical dissertation that has plagiarism on over 75% of the pages (and most of the plagiarism is from the habilitation of the doctoral advisor) is perfectly all right. Oh, it is not good scientific practice, but the doctorate will not be rescinded and the grade will not be lowered."
Students tend to cheat out of a mix of boredom and procrastination; cheating is a manifestation of a lack of motivation to be authentic -- whether we're talking about the total slacker who cut-and-pastes from Encarta, or the 'sophisticated' cheater who tries to juke the SAT. Unauthentic assessment will produce cheaters.

School children are underperforming because they are not good at searching the net, and are not critical enough of what they find. Furthermore, their poor habits in this area are leading to increased incidents of plagiarism.
THE SCIENTIFIC BUSINESS OF THOMSON REUTERS TO OFFER PLAGIARISM DETECTION SERVICE VIA MANUSCRIPT CENTRAL IN CONJUNCTION WITH CROSSCHECK
Manuscript Central v4.2 to Offer its Customers Access to Services Verifying the Originality of All Scholarly Content Submitted on the System
Philadelphia , PA USA - May 1, 2008 - The Scientific business of Thomson Reuters today announced that Manuscript Central’s online workflow system will incorporate the iThenticate checking tool into its submission and peer review process, and will develop suitable policies and guidelines. CrossRef recently announced an agreement with iParadigms, LLC to launch the CrossCheck service to aid in verifying the originality of scholarly content. Following on the success of CrossRef’s recent pilot of CrossCheck, the service is scheduled to go live in June and will be offered via Manuscript Central.
Manuscript Central’s integration with the iThenticate tool will allow CrossCheck member journals and publishers to send submissions for comparison to the iThenticate service at any point in the peer review or acceptance workflow. With status indicators and a quick view of comparison results, journals will be enabled to investigate suspected documents much further back in the peer review process, potentially saving valuable time and resources in the peer review workflow.
Microsoft website aimed at teaching kids about intellectual property in the hopes of discouraging future generations from illegally downloading and using copyrighted music, movies, and images.
We need to rethink the curriculum and not try to cram everything students will ever need to know into their heads in a short period. Instead, we need to train curiosity, self-reliance, cooperative skills, and knowledge of how to learn on their own, knowl
