Mit Twitter lässt sich US-Forschern zufolge die Entwicklung der Börsenkurse recht genau vorhersagen: Die Internetkurzbotschaften nehmen offenbar die Entwicklung des Dow Jones um mehrere Tage vorweg. Ursache, nicht Wirkung Wissenschaftler der Indiana University wiesen in einer Studie nach, dass die Entwicklung des US-Börsenindex Dow Jones wenige Tage vorher durch Analyse der Twitter-Botschaften mit fast 90-prozentiger Sicherheit prognostiziert werden kann, wie Studienleiter Johan Bollen sagte. Dafür werteten die Forscher per Computer den Inhalt von 9,8 Millionen Botschaften von 2,7 Millionen Nutzern aus dem Jahr 2008 aus.
