Este martes vence el plazo entregado por el Ministerio de Educación a las universidades privadas, para que hagan llegar sus alcances sobre el proyecto que busca crear la Superintendencia de Educación Superior.
La ministra de Educación, Carolina Schmidt, se reunió con los rectores de los planteles privados que no pertenecen al Consejo de Rectores de la Universidades Chilenas (Cruch), para dar a conocer los lineamientos de los cambios que se discuten para implementar en materia de institucionalidad, supervisión y aseguramiento de la calidad de la educación superior.
La gratuidad universal en la educación es una de las principales promesas de la campaña de Michelle Bachelet. En un comienzo, se pensó que los beneficiados serían los alumnos de las universidades tradicionales pero la ex presidenta aclaró que el objetivo es incluir también a los estudiantes de planteles privados.

El vicepresidente de RN emplazó a su competidor en Santiago Oriente a que transparente el origen del financiamiento de su campaña, sindicando a los dueños de universidades privadas como sus grandes colaboradores.
En el último día que tenía el Ministerio de Educación para presentar al Congreso las indicaciones al proyecto de Superintendencia y que pidió postergación de la fecha, el rector de la Universidad de Chile, Víctor Pérez Vera hizo llegar sus propuestas a los parlamentarios, en la que aseguró que tal como se encuentra la iniciativa "sólo busca dar un marco legal para que algunas universidades privadas sigan lucrando".
La Corte de Apelaciones de Santiago ratificó que tres universidades privadas no tradicionales deben mostrar los antecedentes que expusieron para lograr su acreditación institucional en los últimos años.
La Corte de Apelaciones desestimó la solicitud de tres universidades de no hacer públicos los antecedentes de sus acreditaciones. En este contexto, estudiantes de universidades privadas hacen hincapié en la necesidad de organizarse, fortaleciendo así la democracia interna de sus instituciones.
