Am Dienstag hatten Demokraten des linken Flügels im Senat gegen eine Verhandlungsvollmacht des Präsidenten gestimmt. Überraschend schnell gelang ein Kompromiss.
Einen Tag nach ihrer Abstimmungsniederlage im US-Senat haben die Befürworter von Freihandelsabkommen mit der EU (TTIP) und dem Pazifikraum (TPP) einen Kompromiss mit den Gegnern ausgehandelt.
Wie andere Freihandels-vorhaben wird auch das seit Juli dieses Jahres verhandelte trans-atlantische Handels- und Investitionsabkommen (TTIP) zwischen der EU und den USA mit Wachstums- und Wohlfahrtsgewinnen begründet. Entgegen dieser positiven Darstellung weisen allerdings Erfahrungen mit anderen Handels- und Investitionsabkommen auf eine Reihe kritischer Aspekte und Risiken hin.
