Xing verändert angesichts des sich verschärfenden Wettbewerbs seine Strategie. Das Business-Netzwerk wird sich in wenigen Monaten für externe Programmierer öffnen. "Wir entwickeln Xing zu einer Plattform für externe Entwickler", kündigt der kürzlich von Ebay gekommene neue Unternehmenschef Stefan Groß-Selbeck in der "FTD" an.
Xing-Chef Stefan Groß-Selbeck will offenbar Unternehmen die Möglichkeit schaffen, auf dem Business-Netzwerk eigene Profilseiten einzurichten. Bislang sind bei Xing nur Personenprofile möglich. Entsprechende Optionen bietet in ähnlicher Form bereits Facebook.
Der Social-Network-Betreiber übernimmt die New Yorker Firma Socialmedian. Dessen Gründer und Chef soll künftig in Hamburg einen neuen Xing-Geschäftsbereich leiten.
Die Portale studiVZ, schuelerVZ und meinVZ sollen von dem Problem nicht betroffen sein, da nach Angaben von Nils Jünemann von StudiVZ in hochgeladene JPG-, GIF- und PNG-Dateien die Header auf Korrektheit überprüft und die Bilder anschließend in verschiedene Größen konvertiert werden.
