DOI:10.1037/scp0000207 Research and theory suggest that spirituality and religiosity may be particularly salient components of the lives of those suffering with mental illness. Despite the significant implications of spiritual struggles for health and well-being, individuals with severe mental illness may receive little help for their struggles. To the contrary, they may experience alienation from spiritual communities as a result of stigma associated with their illness or associated spiritual struggle. Further, there is a lack of empirically validated spiritually sensitive psychological interventions to help this population address their spiritual struggles. Winding Road is a 9-session, spiritually integrated intervention designed to address spiritual struggles in a religiously diverse sample of adults with mental illness..
