Following the recent publication of the PROV standard for provenance on the Web this Morgan & Claypool Synthesis lecture is a hands-on introduction to PROV aimed at Web and linked data professionals. By means of recipes, illustrations, this site, and tools, it guides practitioners through a variety of issues related to provenance: how to generate provenance, publish it on the Web, make it discoverable, and how to utilize it.

CG Information was founded in 1997 by scientists who thought that existing bibliographic software programs were not advanced enough to address the needs of researchers in the age of the Internet. With strong backgrounds in computer science, chemistry, and medicine, our goal is to build first class bibliographic software for the 21st century. CG Information is located in Alpharetta, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta.

Presented by Karen Calhoun at the ALCTS Forum, American Library Association Midwinter Meeting, Denver CO, 26 January 2009. Discusses community norms and policies for sharing the data that supports the discovery and delivery of library collections; places these in the context of the broader data sharing environment outside libraries; and analyzes the process and rationale for revising OCLC's Guidelines for the Use and Transfer of Records.

A talk given at WDCNZ 2011. Abstract:
We all know what “user experience” is and we know that it’s important. We analyze drop-off rates for sign-in flows, do A/B testing on color schemes, and organize user focus groups for new features. But we rarely talk about the “developer experience” - what we all go through each time we try to use a developer tool, library, or API. How do we decide what tool to use? Is it easy to integrate with our development environment? How flexible is the API? Where do we go when something goes wrong? Those are the sort of questions that we can ask to understand what it’s like for a developer to use a product - and where it can be improved.
Whether you simply use developer products or you actually build one yourself, you should walk away from this talk with ideas on how to make a great developer experience - and why it matters.
S. Brin, и L. Page. http://ilpubs.stanford.edu:8090/361/, (1998)In this paper, we present Google, a prototype of a large-scale search engine which makes heavy use of the structure present in hypertext. Google is designed to crawl and index the Web efficiently and produce much more satisfying search results than existing systems. The prototype with a full text and hyperlink database of at least 24 million pages is available at http://google.stanford.edu/. To engineer a search engine is a challenging task. Search engines index tens to hundreds of millions of web pages involving a comparable number of distinct terms. They answer tens of millions of queries every day. Despite the importance of large-scale search engines on the web, very little academic research has been done on them. Furthermore, due to rapid advance in technology and web proliferation, creating a web search engine today is very different from three years ago. This paper provides an in-depth description of our large-scale web search engine -- the first such detailed public description we know of to date. Apart from the problems of scaling traditional search techniques to data of this magnitude, there are new technical challenges involved with using the additional information present in hypertext to produce better search results. This paper addresses this question of how to build a practical large-scale system which can exploit the additional information present in hypertext. Also we look at the problem of how to effectively deal with uncontrolled hypertext collections where anyone can publish anything they want..
