"The authors of this white paper, the E-Data Quality Working Group, are representatives of
libraries, data suppliers and service providers. We recognize that all of us, as participants in
the content supply chain, have a shared interest in improving content discovery and access
for library users through better quality bibliographic metadata and holdings data. We also
recognize that we have a shared responsibility to improve the quality of the data exchanged
and to implement more effective data exchange workflows."
The MODS schema is intended to be able to carry selected data from existing MARC 21 records as well as to enable the creation of original resource description records.
The METS schema is a standard for encoding descriptive, administrative, and structural metadata regarding objects within a digital library, expressed using the XML schema language of the World Wide Web Consortium. The standard is maintained in the Network Development and MARC Standards Office of the Library of Congress, and is being developed as an initiative of the Digital Library Federation.
