Objective: Screening protocols that rely on a single informant are inadequate in predicting pediatric depression. Multi-informant and risk factor screening approaches are potentially more sensitive methods for identifying depression risk, but the incremental validity of these protocols has not been adequately tested.. A new partnership of healthcare providers, including AWP, has been selected as the preferred bidder to deliver community health services for children and young people. The services will run in Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset and are due to begin in April 2017.
The services will include health visiting, school nursing, child and adolescent mental health (CAMHS), speech and language therapy, occupational therapy and physiotherapy, community paediatricians, community nursing and a range of dedicated services for vulnerable children including children in care, children with learning disabilities, children with life limiting conditions and children with drug and alcohol problems.
The profound clinical and financial consequences of severe personality disorders (PDs) that emerge during adolescence have been acknowledged for some time, yet few specialist services exist for these young people.

Because of concerns about potential associations between high doses of citalopram and QTc prolongation in adults, this study examined whether such associations are operant in children. We hypothesized that therapeutic doses of nontricyclic antidepressant medications (non-TCAs) prescribed to children would be cardiovascularly safe. Alcohol and cannabis misuse are related to impaired cognition. When inferring causality, four nonexclusive theoretical models can account for this association: 1) a common underlying vulnerability model; 2) a neuroplasticity model in which impairment is concurrent with changes in substance use but temporary because of neuroplastic brain processes that restore function; 3) a neurotoxicity model of long-term impairment consequential to substance use; and 4) a developmental sensitivity hypothesis of age-specific effects. Using a developmentally sensitive design, the authors investigated relationships between year-to-year changes in substance use and cognitive development.. Recent policy in England has called on services for children and young people's mental health and well‐being to develop and deliver local transformation plans to increase the provision of evidence‐based, outcomes‐informed and service user‐informed treatments. The role of local leadership in service transformation is poorly understood, despite evidence suggesting it is key to enacting change.. Clinical depression in children as young as age 3 has been validated, and prevalence rates are similar to the school-age disorder. Homotypic continuity between early and later childhood depression has been observed, with alterations in brain function and structure similar to those reported in depressed adults. These findings highlight the importance of identifying and treating depression as early as developmentally possible, given the relative treatment resistance and small effect sizes for treatments later in life. The authors conducted a randomized controlled trial of a dyadic parent-child psychotherapy for early childhood depression that focuses on enhancing the child’s emotional competence and emotion regulation.. A positive family history for bipolar disorder (BD) is presently the strongest predictor for BD. Over the last 2 decades, several longitudinal studies among children of patients with BD (bipolar offspring) identified converging evidence for early BD manifestations and associated parental and environmental risk factors.1 Risk for BD is elevated in bipolar offspring, but affected families want to know an individual risk estimate. Moreover, clinicians and policy makers want to know how to identify those youth at ultra high risk because this information may affect treatment and monitoring strategies. Although school-based programmes for the identification of children and young people (CYP) with mental health difficulties (MHD) have the potential to improve short- and long-term outcomes across a range of mental disorders, the evidence-base on the effectiveness of these programmes is underdeveloped. In this systematic review, we sought to identify and synthesise evidence on the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of school-based methods to identify students experiencing MHD, as measured by accurate identification, referral rates, and service uptake.. Traumatized youth are at an increased risk of a host of negative academic and psychoeducational outcomes. Screening and identification of students who experience potentially traumatic events may help schools provide support to at-risk students. In light of this, the current study examines the availability and use of trauma screening measures to detect early indicators of risk among youth in schools..
