The association between cognitive impairment and physical frailty and their impact on mood, nutrition, and fall risk.
M. Gawad. Journal of Mental Health and Aging, (January 2024)
Abstract
The dramatic increase in number of elderlies worldwide
affected their quality of life because of the higher risk of
disease, disability, and dementia 1. One of the major
challenges facing elderly population is functional impairment.
Frailty is one of these challenges which is defined as a clinical
state in which there is an increased vulnerability to stressors,
occur due to decreased physiological reserves. Frailty is an
important contributor to functional decline and early mortality
in older adults, and frailty is not part of the normal ageing
process
