The NASA Vision Workbench (VW) is a general purpose image processing and computer vision library developed by the Autonomous Systems and Robotics (ASR) Area in the Intelligent Systems Division at the NASA Ames Research Center. VW has been publicly released under the terms of the NASA Open Source Software Agreement.
GLAS (the Geoscience Laser Altimeter System) is the first laser-ranging (lidar) instrument for continuous global observations of Earth, which will make unique atmospheric observations as an important component of the ESE climate change program. GLAS is a facility instrument designed to measure ice-sheet topography and associated temporal changes, cloud and atmospheric properties.and give us information on the height and thickness of radiatively important cloud layers which is needed for accurate short term climate and weather prediction. In addition, operation of GLAS over land and water will provide along-track topography.
JSatTrak is a Satellite tracking program written in Java. It allows you to predict the position of any satellite in real time or in the past or future. It uses advanced SGP4/SDP4 algorithms developed by NASA/NORAD or customizable high precision solvers to propagate satellite orbits. The program also allows for easy updating of current satellite tracking data via CelesTrak.com. Because this application was written in Java, it should run on almost any operating system or directly off the web using java web start!
While working with Aerospace to develop the NPP architecture documentation, NASA realized the Science Data Segment presented novel challenges in terms of ground system design and implementation. NASA asked Aerospace to suggest possible approaches for the Science Data Segment in early 2001. Based on initial architecture definition and requirements, Aerospace recommended an emerging technology known as grid computing (see sidebar, Grid Computing: An Overview). Because of the relative lack of maturity of this approach, Aerospace also recommended the development of a prototype implementation that would allow NASA to investigate key features as it moved to procure the full operational Science Data Segment. This prototype implementation was named the Advanced Data Grid.
NASA/GSFC intends to issue an increase-in-scope to contract NAS5-30384 with ITT Space Systems Corporation for the acquisition of an Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) integrated system. The AVHRR integrated system consists of one six channel imaging AVHRR instrument and one optional interface unit to the NPOESS C1 spacecraft. The AVHRR shall be integrated to, tested, and launched on the NPOESS C1 mission.
