The paper deals with a running research project, aiming on the se·
lection of test procedures for evaluation of polymers and of a Silicon
Rubber (SR) for composite hollow insulators for installation in outdoor
service. The investigations ill'e focused on the validation of the
agciDg resistance at simultaneous voltage and pollution layer
stressing. Caused by the dynamic behaviour of SR. standardized and
non-standardized procedures are applied to improve the transferability
of the test results to the perfonnancc under outdoor con·
ditions. The selection of test procedures is discussed, first results are
introduced and some problems in the evaluation of hollow insulators
with relatively large diameters arc shown.
