To enable the transmission capacity of an overhead power transmission line to be fully utilized as far as
thermally possible, meteorological statistics should be s.tudied, so that the power line will not be dimensioned on the
basis of excessively conservative weather parameters. It is also of interest to determine the thermal emissivity constant
of power line cond~ctors which have been in service. The thermal effects of short-circuit cu"ent must also be taken
into account in the design of overhead lines. The effect of arcing should be taken into consideration in the design of
insulators and accessories. Short-circuit tests have been performed on insulator strings. The dimensioning of conductors,
insulators and accessories with regard to short-circuit cu"~nts is discussed. The economic and practical consequences
of introducing rules for the dimensioning of short-circuit cu"ents are presented.
