‘Learning the language of school history: the role of linguistics in mapping the writing demands of the secondary school curriculum

Description

“This study uses the tools of functional linguistics to illuminate the writing requirements of the history curriculum” They chose to analyse texts from their corpus that were considered successful. “The corpus of texts was analysed in order to (a) establish the main types of text or genres that students produce as part of the history curriculum and (b) examine the key grammatical and lexical (vocabulary) patterns operating in such texts.”
