Аннотация
In this article it is argued that the current practice in the four main English learners' dictionaries of listing the most frequent senses first, even when the first sense happens to be a metaphorical use of a still current, though less frequently occurring literal sense, is not very helpful for foreign learners, since this does not increase their awareness of the richness of the entry words involved. The article discusses the concept of metaphor itself and its implications for lexicography.
