Las universidades privadas surgen por exceso de demanda de estudiantes señaló el supervisor de educación superior zona 010, Moisés Torres Lechuga, pero reconoció que un porcentaje de esos alumnos deserta antes de concluir sus estudios universitarios.
El pasado 9 de enero Felipe Calderón anunció el Programa de Financiamiento de la Educación Superior, que prevé otorgar créditos bancarios con la garantía de Nacional Financiera (Nafin) y la Secretaría de Hacienda y Crédito Público (SHCP), por un monto de dos mil 500 millones de pesos, etiquetados para 23 mil plazas a distribuirse en 21 universidades privadas.
La red de universidades privadas Laureate International Universities presentó ayer al Govern el proyecto de crear la Universidad Europea de Mallorca en los terrenos de la urbanización Maioris de Llucmajor. Una iniciativa con una inversión de 25 millones de euros y que impartirá estudios de carácter internacional. El Govern acogió con los brazos abiertos la iniciativa. No es un proyectos nuevo, ya que a finales de los año 90 ya se presentó en sociedad con los mismos accionistas. El campus universitario se ubicará en la urbanización de Maioris, situada en la costa de Llucmajor, muy cerca de Palma.
Seguridad, incendio y socorrismo; Administración de farmacias, Ciencias del seguro, Terapia ocupacional, entre otras, forman parte del listado de carreras que ofrecen varias universidades privadas.
El Gobierno valenciano ha acordado hoy dar la conformidad al anteproyecto de ley de reconocimiento de la Universidad Europea de Valencia como universidad privada, que impartirá un total de siete titulaciones oficiales, y se espera que esté en funcionamiento a partir del próximo curso.

Un grupo de universidades particulares dejó de pagar al Estado S/.400 millones por beneficios tributarios cuya vigencia concluyó a fines de 1999, informó hoy el ministro de Economía y Finanzas, Luis Miguel Castilla.
