Apache ESME (Enterprise Social Messaging Environment) is a secure and highly scalable microsharing and micromessaging platform that allows people to discover and meet one another and get controlled access to other sources of information.
You can hardly turn a web page these days without seeing a story that describes how people are using social networks, whether it is Twitter, Facebook or some other service to develop and build their personal communities.
When solving problems, how useful might it be if a user was able to tap into the collective knowledge of her peers or surrounding groups of people with whom she might naturally network in the workplace setting? How much quicker and with greater precision might she be able to solve daily problems? What if there was a communications mechanism that takes the best of what services like Twitter offers and co-mingled that with readily recognizable business processes? That solution is Apache ESME.
Java applications are typically deployed in multiple environments and platforms, each requiring some unique configuration. JFig gives developers a simple yet powerful tool to manage their applications’ configuration. It allows them to:
1. Store application configuration in one common repository of XML files
2. Access configuration data using one common, convenient interface
3. Easily define multiple configurations, dynamically modifying those variables that need to change in different situations
4. Eliminate the error prone practice of defining the same configuration variables in multiple locations
5. Ease the management, deployment, and control of configuration files
Flesh is a cross-platform, open source Java application designed to quickly analyze a document and display the difficulty associated with comprehending it. It is available for all platforms that support Java. Flesh has been released under the GPL (license for use).
After processing a document, Flesh produces two scores: the Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level and the Flesch Reading Ease Score. Each of these scores is calculated after determining the number of sentences, words and syllables a document contains. Using those numbers, the Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level and Flesch Reading Ease Score can then be calculated
The PDF Renderer is just what the name implies: an open source, all Java library which renders PDF documents to the screen using Java2D. Typically this means drawing into a Swing panel, but it could also draw to other Graphics2D implementations. We hope you will come up with cool things to do with it that we never thought of.
PDF is one of the core file formats of the Internet, so it is very important for Java programmers to be able to both read and write PDFs. Great open source libraries like iText have long handled the writing half, but until now there has not been a good way to read PDFs using open source Java libraries. It could be used to draw on top of PDFs, share them over a network, convert PDFs to PNG images, or maybe even project PDFs into a 3D scene.
Akka is the platform for the next generation event-driven, scalable and fault-tolerant architectures on the JVM
We believe that writing correct concurrent, fault-tolerant and scalable applications is too hard. Most of the time it's because we are using the wrong tools and the wrong level of abstraction.
Akka is here to change that.
Using the Actor Model together with Software Transactional Memory we raise the abstraction level and provides a better platform to build correct concurrent and scalable applications.
For fault-tolerance we adopt the "Let it crash" / "Embrace failure" model which have been used with great success in the telecom industry to build applications that self-heals, systems that never stop.
Actors also provides the abstraction for transparent distribution and the basis for truly scalable and fault-tolerant applications.
Akka is Open Source and available under the Apache 2 License.
Swizzle started out as some stream-based parsing code I've had sitting around for quite some time. Once the project was established, it became my dumping ground for all things of a swizzling nature; poking at or mucking with unprocessed or unusable data. Generally, to swizzle unconsumable data into a consumable form.
Overview
jPod Renderer is is the long awaited rendering implementation for AWT and SWT.
Based on the successful jPod library, this one adds a platform abstraction which allows for
* pluggable PDF image conversion from and to AWT and SWT

* PDF/A Live!
JOpt Simple is a Java library for parsing command line options, such as those you might pass to an invocation of javac .
As closely as possible, JOpt Simple attempts to honor the command line option syntaxes of POSIX getopt() and GNU getopt_long() .
Welcome to the newly open sourced SHOP.COM Cache System: sccache
What is it?
The SHOP.COM Cache System is an object cache system that...
* is an in-process cache and external, shared Cache
* is horizontally scalable
* stores cached objects to disk
* supports associative keys
* is non-transactional
* can have any size key and any size data
* does auto-GC based on TTL
* is container and platform neutral
Spin is a transparent threading solution for non-freezing Swing applications.
Swing is the standard component architecture for developing Java desktop applications. Its exhaustive collection of widgets is the foundation for easy development of rich graphical user interfaces (GUI).
Alas every non trivial GUI sooner or later encounters the problem of "freeze". This annoying behaviour is experienced by users every time the application performs extensive calculations or blocks for network or disk I/O.
We will explain the reason for this problem and explore different techniques to prevent Swing GUIs from "freezing". We will present our project named Spin which offers a - to our knowledge - revolutionary new approach. It offers a solution for transparent thread handling with minimal impact on your application code.
yEd is a very powerful graph editor that is written entirely in the Java programming language. It can be used to quickly and effectively generate drawings and to apply automatic layouts to a range of different diagrams and networks.
StringTemplate is a java template engine (with ports for C# and Python) for generating source code, web pages, emails, or any other formatted text output. StringTemplate is particularly good at multi-targeted code generators, multiple site skins, and internationalization/localization. It evolved over years of effort developing jGuru.com. StringTemplate also generates this website and powers the ANTLR v3 code generator. Its distinguishing characteristic is that it strictly enforces model-view separation unlike other engines. Strict separation makes websites and code generators more flexible and maintainable; it also provides an excellent defense against malicious template authors. There are currently about 600 StringTemplate source downloads a month.
Gecode/J is a Java interface for the Gecode C++ constraint programming library. It allows you to
model and solve
constraint problems in Java.
explore the search tree
with Gist, the Graphical Interactive Search Tool. Either using the built-in depth-first search strategy, or manually and interactively. Solutions and choice nodes can be inspected by clicking on them, and visualized using custom actions.
implement propagators
in Java. Whether for prototyping, for teaching, or just for fun. The propagators are integrated fully, so in your model you can mix them freely with the built-in propagators provided by Gecode.
implement branchings
for custom heuristics. Just like propagators, custom branchings fully integrate into Gecode/J.
implement search engines
using copying and recomputation. As search is fully programmable, you can write your own search engine, e.g. for LDS or A* search. In fact, Gist is implemented entirely in Java using the Gecode/J interface.
Hm. RAD environment with Swing GUI, no downloads yet (2008-08-18), uses an proprietary scripting language, only the Enterprise Edition (2.2 K $) allows to use the Java API. Targeted customer group seems to be procedural developers. What sort of Java product should that be where you need to mention that you can write your own classes??? doesn't seem to use the Java EE API, would be interesting if the "ObjectScript" is interpreted or bytecode.
IMHO too proprietary, goes into the wrong direction for bigger enterprises.
Swing has lot of components built-in but still some are missing. This project provides the developer community with these missing components, components inspired (copied?!) from modern user interfaces.
The Riena platform will be the foundation for building multi-tier enterprise client/server applications. As such Riena will broaden the usage of the service oriented architecture of OSGi/Equinox by providing access to local and remote services in a transparent way. Using this uniform programming model, the components of Riena and the business components of the enterprise application can be developed regardless of their target location. Components are later easily placed on client or server depending on the business requirements.
As an example the Riena user interface components will support a business process oriented user interface visualization and navigation metaphor which can be used as alternative to the default workbench layout.
Stopwatch was ment to replace System.currentTimeMillis() calls, match like Log4j replaced System.out.println() calls. To see how it does that go to Quick Start page.
Unitils is an open source library aimed at making unit testing easy and maintainable. Unitils builds further on existing libraries like DBUnit and EasyMock and integrates with JUnit and TestNG.
Unitils provides general asserion utilities, support for database testing, support for testing with mock objects and offers integration with Spring and Hibernate. It has been designed to offer these services to unit tests in a very configurable and loosely coupled way. As a result, services can be added and extended very easily.
Currently Unitils offers following features:
* General testing utilities
o Equality assertion through reflection, with different options like ignoring Java default/null values and ignoring order of collections
* Database testing utilities
o Automatic maintenance and constraints disabling of unit test databases
+ Support for Oracle, Hsqldb, MySql, DB2, Postgresql and Derby
o Simplify unit test database connection setup
o Simplify insertion of test data with DBUnit
o Simplify Hibernate session management for unit testing
o Automatically test the mapping of Hibernate mapped objects with the database
o Manage transactions during unit testing
* Mock object utilities
o Simplify EasyMock mock object creation
o Simplify mock object injection
o EasyMock argument matching using reflection equality
* Spring integration
o ApplicationContext configuration and easy injection of spring managed beans into a unit test
o Support for using a Spring-configured Hibernate SessionFactory in unit tests.
The project started begin 2006 from an Ordina J-Technologies discussion group on unit testing. The result was a list of guidelines and Unitils emerged in an attempt to write code to support these guidelines.

MXQuery - a low-footprint, extensible XQuery Engine
XQueryP is implemented to allow easier application development by extending the XQuery Update facility, which is also implemented in MXQuery.
The engine uses a very low memory footprint (both in code size and runtime data requirements) to be able to run on low-powered devices. This is achieved by using restricted type support, streaming data processing and a efficient token-based representation of XML.
Parancoe is a Java meta-framework aggregating in an useful way Hibernate/JPA, Spring 2, Spring MVC and, for the AJAX support, DWR. Parancoe purpose is to give to developers a set of libraries ready to build standard web applications (which in most cases are just crud applications) without worrying of long and harmful configurations files. Parancoe will be composed of a full MVC stack.
