Internetnutzer sollen künftig in fünf der renommiertesten Bibliotheken der Welt online stöbern können - dank Suchmaschinenprimus Google. Die Bibliotheksbestände der drei US-Universitäten von [extern] Stanford, [extern] Harvard und [extern] Michigan sowie der britischen [extern] Oxford-Universität und der [extern] New York Public Library sollen zu einem großen Teil nach und nach gescannt, digitalisiert und anschließend online verfügbar gemacht werden - kostenlos per Google-Suche.
Der Suchmaschinen-Gigant hat sich mit US-Autoren und Verlagen geeinigt und darf nun mehrere Millionen urheberrechtlich geschützter Bücher in seine Buchsuche einbinden.
Es regt sich Widerstand gegen Googles Vereinbarung mit US-Autorenverbänden zur Buch-Suchmaschine. Der deutsche Buchhandel wehrt sich gegen das »amerikanische Modell«.
