Was verbindet Reisende und Lesende? Wohl am ehesten der Wunsch, neue Welten zu entdecken. Und somit war es wohl nur eine Frage der Zeit, bis man mit den Bibliotels darauf reagiert. Tourismusbetriebe kooperieren dafür mit Verlagen, Buchhändlern und Bibliotheken, um dem Gast ein vielfältiges Lesevergnügen bieten zu können.
Lesen im Urlaub ist ein doppeltes Erlebnis: überraschender Lesestoff und Abenteuer im Kopf. Viele Hotels horten in der hauseigenen Bibliothek Liegengelassenes. Zerfleddert und trotzdem gerne genommen. Manchmal fehlen Seiten, teils findet man erboste Kommentare. Letzteres entdeckte ich etwa in „1000 ganz legale Steuertricks“ in Miami. An den entlegensten Orten finden sich Bücher, die in öffentlichen Bibliotheken unbeachtet bleiben. Die Dominanz der Werke von Donna Leon, John Grisham und Stephen King sowie die zuverlässige Präsenz von Douglas Adams’ „Per Anhalter durch die Galaxis“ ist bei diesen Bibliotheken auffallend.
