Basel (ots) - Jedes Freihandelsabkommen ist ein Tauschgeschäft. Mit dem Mercosur gibt es Freihandel und mehr Exporte nur, wenn der südamerikanische Staatenbund im Gegenzug mehr Agrarprodukte in die Schweiz liefern kann. Anstatt auf hohe Standards im Handel mit landwirtschaftlichen Produkten zu setzen, verhandelt die Schweiz über eine Marktöffnung für Billig-Importe, produziert unter bedenklichen Bedingungen für Tier- und Umweltschutz. In einer neuen Publikation bewertet der Schweizer Tierschutz STS die Produktionsbedingungen in der Agroindustrie des Mercosur aus Tierschutzsicht.
Der Bundesrat verhandelt derzeit über ein Freihandelsabkommen mit Argentinien, Brasilien, Paraguay und Uruguay (Mercosur). Bei den grossen Wirtschaftsverbänden stossen die Pläne auf Zustimmung. Die Landwirtschaft hingegen ist gespalten.

Ein Freihandelsabkommen mit Mercosur dürfe nicht auf Kosten des Schweizer Agrar- und Lebensmittelsektors erfolgen, so die Schweizerische Vereinigung für einen starken Agrar- und Lebensmittelsektor (SALS).
Der europäische Bauernverband Copa spricht sich in einem Brief an die EU-Kommission gegen landwirtschaftliche Zugeständnisse an die Mercosur-Staaten aus, mit denen die EU ein Freihandelsabkommen anstrebt.
