"Orient XXI is neither a daily news website nor an academic organ reserved for specialists. We want it to be ‘in-between’, aimed at a large and varied public interested in the region for many different reasons – at students as much as people with relatives or friends on the other shore, at men and women involved on a daily basis in the countless economic, cultural, and interpersonal networks linking North and South."
Partial results from the official election commission were expected to be released throughout the day Monday, but the Nida Tunis (Tunis Calls) party cited exit polls to say it has won more seats than any other party in the 217-member parliament.
The election, in which 60 percent of Tunisia's 5.2 million registered voters participated, will produce the nation's first five-year parliament following the country's 2011 Arab Spring revolt and has already been widely praised around the world.

Huffington Post 28.1.2012 In the desert of Southern Tunisia, a group of renewable energy entrepreneurs, NUR Energie Ltd, and their Tunisian joint venture partner, Top Oilfield Services, are creating what may just be the most ambitious solar power renewable energy project to date. Along with the endorsement of the Desertec Foundation, NUR Energie has launched the TuNur project to export solar energy from North Africa to Europe, linking Tunisia to Italy via a High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) Cable and into the Italian electricity grid in order to supply a constant 2,000 MW of electricity. When completed, TuNur is set to be the world's largest solar energy project.
Last week, both the Tunisian caretaker President Dr Moncef Marzouki and the president of the ruling Islamist Movement, Rachid Gannouchi , were in London to receive the ‘2012 Chatham House Prize’. a few days after the award was given, violence broke out in the governorate of Siliana in the North West of Tunisia, as protesters took to the streets, decrying the very same economic conditions that spurred violence in early 2011 and subsequently led to the fall of former President Ben Ali.
The meeting between the Prime Minister of Tunisia, a leader of the Islamist Party Ennahda, and a delegation from the International Council (IC) of the World Social Forum (WSF) has confirmed the interest of the Tunisian Government to facilitate the holding of the WSF 2013 scheduled for March 23 to 28, in Tunis.
afp 2.12.2012: President Moncef Marzouki warned on Friday that the crisis could spread, saying the government of Islamist and rival Prime Minister Hamadi Jebali was not meeting the expectations of the people. "We do not have a single Siliana... I am afraid that it could spread to several regions and threaten the future of the revolution," Marzouki said in a televised speech. He said Tunisia was at a crossroads between "the road to ruin and the road to recovery."
"Two years on from the day Tunisians overthrew the regime of Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali, sparking democracy movements across the region, the coalition government headed by the Islamist party Nahda is on the defensive. With little progress on tackling chronic levels of unemployment, it faces an increasingly strong challenge from a new party, Nida Tounes (Tunisian Call), led by Beji Caid Sebsi, a veteran politician who was a key figure in the early years of the Ben Ali regime."
