It has become clear, if it wasn’t before, that there is a fundamental choice between pursuing progressive policies and a hard Brexit. Rather than enabling Corbyn’s Britain – the regulations, state aid and nationalisation desired by many on the Left – a hard Brexit could derail these visions. Leaving the EU isn’t just going to consume government and parliament now, it is likely to dominate the next decade, politically and financially constraining any government in the future.

A private college in London has been given the power to award its own degrees in a move the government says will increase competition in England's higher education system.
The first batch of 60 undergraduates at the New College of the Humanities in Bloomsbury, London’s main university quarter, occupy a spacious Georgian house. Opening doors on the way up a grand staircase, your reporter eavesdropped on tutorials on ancient Greece, Romantic poets and economic theory. It feels like a dinky version of an august academic institution. Yet it is a for-profit organisation with a chief executive huddled over spreadsheets downstairs.
A group of leading independent schools is studying plans to set up an elite private university modelled on American liberal arts colleges, which concentrates on high-quality teaching for undergraduates rather than research.
A scheme to fund more student places at private universities is under fire after the Universities minister, David Willetts, admitted that no checks are made on whether undergraduates complete their course.
London Britain's Conservative Party is making reform of higher-education financing a centerpiece of its new platform, which promises $12-billion in spending cuts.

By George Monbiot, published in the Guardian 17th September 2014 How the media shafted the people of Scotland. Perhaps the most arresting fact about the Scottish referendum is this: that there is no newspaper – local, regional or national, English or Scottish – which supports independence except the Sunday Herald. The Scots who will vote yes have been almost without representation in the media.

25.5.: "Shortly after the killing of Drummer Rigby [in Woolwich], 28-year-old Michael Adebolajo was filmed by a passer-by saying he had carried out the attack because British soldiers killed Muslims every day [...] A friend of Mr Adebolajo, Abu Nusaybah, was arrested on Friday night on BBC premises following an interview with BBC Newsnight. The arrest was not directly related to the murder of Drummer Rigby, the Met Police said. Mr Nusayabah told the programme that Mr Adebolajo had rejected an approach by MI5 to work for them around six months ago."
Ian Warrell, a Turner expert and curator at the Tate Britain, says that a painstaking trawl through Turner's work has led him to conclude that most, if not all, the erotic art still remains in the collection and that the bonfire, said to have occurred in 1858, almost certainly never happened.

Toronto Star May 21 2012: "As many as 48,000 security forces. 13,500 troops. Surface-to-air missiles stationed on top of residential apartment buildings. A sonic weapon that disperses crowds by creating “head-splitting pain.” Unmanned drones peering down from the skies. A safe zone, cordoned off by an 18-kilometre electrified fence, ringed with trained agents and 55 teams of attack dogs. One would be forgiven for thinking that these were the counter-insurgency tactics used by U.S. army bases in Iraq and Afghanistan. But instead of being used in a war zone, they in fact make up the very visible security apparatus in London for the 2012 Summer Olympics."

Dauly Mail, 2 November 2011 ts dramatic collapse several hours after the Twin Towers fell triggered a decade of conspiracy theories. Those who believed that the September 11 attacks on America were not carried out by Al Qaeda terrorists pointed to the fall of World Trade Center Building 7 as proof of their wild claims. But a newly released video appears to finally prove once and for all that Building 7 was brought down by the intense heat of the blazing World Trade Center - and not explosives, as conspiracy theorists claim.

"John Woodcock, the Labour MP for Barrow and Furness, where replacement Trident submarines would be built, welcomed the result. Woodcock, who backed Liz Kendall in the leadership contest, said: “It is good that Labour members have rejected the CND left’s plan to prioritise returning the party to the days of 1980s unilateral nuclear disarmament. This is a welcome sign that many rank-and-file Labour supporters want to keep us focused on the immediate concerns of the public rather than re-running old battles that risk splitting Labour apart.”"
"This suggests Trident will be renewed when MPs are asked to vote on the “maingate” decision next summer, possibly in June. The combination of centre-ground Labour figures such as Watson and Benn and the vast bulk of Conservative MPs would provide enough votes to defeat Corbyn if he joins forces with the SNP’s 56 MPs to oppose Trident."
