SUMMARY of the Language Technology work carried out in the European Commission's Joint Research Centre in Ispra, Italy. The Web Mining and Intelligence Action with its Language Technology group has put together a system with three major components: (a) a tool to automatically find and retrieve documents, on the internet and other sources, that are relevant for a specific subject domain; (b) a tool set to analyse texts by extracting various information aspects from them, such as keywords, named entities, products and product groups, similarity to other documents, cross-lingual links, etc.; (c) tools to visualise the extracted data in an intuitive manner, e.g. document profiles for individual documents, document maps for whole document collections; graphs for social networks; maps for overview representations, etc. The main FOCUS of the work is on multilinguality and on providing cross-lingual information access to textual data. The main CUSTOMERS are the European Institutions, national organisations in the EU Member States, as well as the general public
