Um Remdesivir, eines der als aussichtsreich geltenden Medikamente gegen Covid-19, hat sich ein Kampf um Monopolrechte entwickelt. Er ist ein eindrückliches Beispiel für die Pervertierung des Schutzes geistigen Eigentums, der längst von einer sinnvollen Form der Innovationsförderung zu einem der wichtigsten Treiber der Ungleichheit degeneriert ist.
Wer in den USA Software-Anwendungen austüftelt, muss stets mit Klagen wegen Patentverletzungen rechnen. Schuld daran ist ein ausuferndes Patentwesen. Statt dass es Innovationen fördert, hemmt es diese zunehmend.
Tausende von Patenten schützen heutzutage innovative Produkte wie etwa Smartphones. Solche Patentdickichte erweisen sich zunehmend als Bremse für die Innovationstätigkeit der Volkswirtschaft und als schlecht kalkulierbares Risiko für die Unternehmen.
Mit 200 Millionen Euro fördert das Bundesforschungsministerium die Idee vom Forschungscampus, bei dem Hochschulen, Forschungseinrichtungen und Unternehmern gemeinsam Projekte verwirklichen.
