A new report, based on the Voluntary Voices partnership's work with health and care commissioners and the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise sector (VCSE), has found that VCSE organisations play a pivotal role in delivering personalised care.
A survey of 1,000 people, carried out by the Care Quality Commission, asked people to rank their stress levels during key life events including organising a wedding and finding a child a nursery or school place. Over two thirds of those who had been involved in choosing a care home or home care service said that it was the experience they found most stressful.

Carers UK’s State of Caring 2016 report shows that, one year on from the implementation of the Care Act 20142 – designed to improve support for carers – carers in England are still struggling to get the support they need to care well, maintain their own health, balance work and care, and have a life of their own outside of caring.
There has been growing interest in religion and spirituality within social work literature. However, little empirical research has explored Islamic welfare organisations and especially their significance for service users. This article presents findings from an evaluation of a British Islamic social work organisation (Ihsaan Social Support Association (ISSA) Wales), drawing on qualitative interviews with Muslim service users (n = 8) and quantitative findings from the service user database (n = 495), a quality-of-life assessment (n = 42) and a satisfaction survey (n = 36).

Community Treatment Orders (CTOs) are often complex because of the ethical tensions created by an intervention that aims at promoting the patient’s good through an inherently coercive process. There is limited research that examines the complexity of CTOs and how patients on CTOs and workers administering CTOs make sense of their experiences.
The aim of the current exploratory study was to investigate the impact on care home staff when working with people with dementia at the end of life and to explore how they cope with this aspect of their work. Service user and carer involvement (SUCI) in social work education in England is required by the profession's regulator, the Health and Care Professions Council. However, a recent study of eighty-three Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in England reported that, despite considerable progress in SUCI, there is no evidence that the learning derived from it is being transferred to social work practice. In this article, we describe a study that examines the question: ‘What impact does SUCI have on the skills, knowledge and values of student social workers at the point of qualification and beyond?’
