People are being invited to take part in a special programme of art activities every Thursday at the Shire Hall Gallery in Stafford.
‘This Way Up’ is organised by Creative Health CIC in conjunction with Staffordshire County Council’s Arts team who want to promote good mental wellbeing using the arts. The workshops start from 12 January to 9 February and will be encouraging people to take some creative time out for themselves.
Budding artists will work with professional artists and create their own personalised pieces of art, including collage, construction and printing. People will get the chance to attend six hands-on art sessions and try out new ideas each time. They can then develop their skills, ideas and artwork at home and enjoy art as a means to relax.
New research published by BMJ Open suggests that membership of social groups such as book clubs or church groups after retirement is linked with improved health and wellbeing.
