The International Energy Agency (IEA) Implementing Agreement for a Cooperative Programme on Geothermal Energy Research and Technology, or Geothermal Implementing Agreement (GIA), provides an important framework for wide-ranging international cooperation in geothermal R&D. Its activities presently cover four different research areas: Environmental Impacts of Geothermal Development, Enhanced Geothermal Systems, Advanced Geothermal Drilling Technology and Direct Use of Geothermal Energy. The GIA has begun its third 5-year term of operation, which ends on 31 March 2012. The mission for this term is to promote the sustainable utilization of geothermal energy throughout the world by: improving existing technologies, developing new technologies to render exploitable the vast and widespread global geothermal resources, facilitating the transfer of know-how, providing high quality information and widely communicating geothermal energy's strategic, economic and environmental benefits.

Published since 1923, ChERD specialises in research with practical significance including that which extends the boundaries of traditional chemical engineering. ChERD is the official journal of the European Federation of Chemical Engineering (EFCE ): Part A. The journal brings current techniques and new design ideas together on all aspects of experimentation, development and theory from both the academic and industrial chemical engineering communities. ChERD publishes regular special issues focusing on specific topics, and issues dedicated to selected papers from major conferences. Core topic areas: 1. distillation and absorption 2. fluid flow 3. heat and mass transfer 4. materials processing and product development 5. oil and natural gas production 6. particle technology 7. pharmaceutical engineering 8. process systems engineering 9. reaction engineering 10. separation processes

The Mycroft Project provides a collection of more than 19 thousand Sherlock & OpenSearch Search Engine Plugins for your web browser. The name Mycroft refers to Mycroft Holmes, the brother of Sherlock Holmes in the novels of Arthur Conan Doyle - The Mycroft Project originates from the Sherlock standard. What is a Search Engine Plugin? A search engine plugin allows you to access a search engine directly from your browser. In Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer you use the search bar at the top right. Microsoft appears to prefer the term Search Provider but there is no difference in function. There are also tools to add search capability to right click menus and other locations.

A consortium of research groups from ETH Zürich, EPF Lausanne, the Paul Scherrer Institute and the University of Bonn, collaborate in a comprehensive program of basic research on key aspects of Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGSs), with a focus on the system to be developed in Basel in December 2006. The work will contribute to understanding and developing an alternative and sustainable energy resource free of CO2-emission. Novel observation techniques and new process-simulation tools will be developed, partly building on data provided as a major ‘in-kind’ contribution by the industrial developers of the Basel Project. The overall aim of the project is to better understand the relevant processes and improve the predictability of EGSs for more extensive use in Switzerland and worldwide.

Free thinkers. Curious people collaborating across borders. Pioneers pushing back the boundaries of what is possible. Teams building upon the work of others. People trying things just to see what happens. Those are all phrases that could be applied to KDE - or to scientists. The scientific mindset shares a lot with that of free software and so it is no surprise that there are plenty of scientists within our community, nor that KDE has some strong applications in the world of science.

Science is the academic journal of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and is considered one of the world's most prestigious scientific journals.[1][2] The peer-reviewed journal, first published in 1880, is circulated weekly and has a print subscriber base of around 130,000. Because institutional subscriptions and online access serve a larger audience, its estimated readership is one million people.[3] The major focus of the journal is publishing important original scientific research and research reviews, but Science also publishes science-related news, opinions on science policy and other matters of interest to scientists and others who are concerned with the wide implications of science and technology. Although most scientific journals focus on a specific field, Science and its rival Nature cover the full range of scientific disciplines. Science's impact factor for 2009 was 29.747 (as measured by the Institute for Scientific Information). Although it is the journal of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, membership in the AAAS is not required to publish in Science. Papers are accepted from authors around the world. Competition to publish in Science is very intense, as an article published in such a highly cited journal can lead to attention and career advancement for the authors. Fewer than 10% of articles submitted to the editors are accepted for publication and all research articles are subject to peer review before they appear in the journal. Science is based in Washington, D.C., United States, with a second office in Cambridge, England.
