Am Sonntag waren in zehn brandenburgischen Städten und Gemeinden insgesamt 238 Nedap-Wahlcomputer eingesetzt worden. Die Berichte und Eindrücke der Freiwilligen des Chaos Computer Clubs (CCC), die zu der Kommunalwahl in Brandenburg die Abläufe rund um die elektronische Erfassung und Verarbeitung von Wählerstimmen beobachtet hatten, sind jetzt im Netz zu finden; Fotostrecken von den Beobachtungsmissionen in Bernau und Teltow sind ebenfalls online.
Das Bundesverfassungsgericht hat für den 28. Oktober eine mündliche Verhandlung über die Wahlprüfungsbeschwerden gegen die Verwendung von Nedap-Wahlcomputern bei der letzten Bundestagswahl angesetzt. Die Beschwerden in Karlsruhe hatten der Frankfurter Physiker und Software-Experte Dr. Ulrich Wiesner sowie sein Vater, der emeritierte Politikwissenschaftler Prof. Dr. Joachim Wiesner im Februar 2007 eingelegt, nachdem der Deutsche Bundestag im Dezember 2006 auf Empfehlung des Wahlprüfungsausschusses ihren Einspruch gegen die Verwendung von Wahlcomputern der Bauarten Nedap ESD 1 und ESD 2 im September 2005 bei der Wahl zum 16. Deutschen Bundestag als "offensichtlich unbegründet" abgewiesen hatte.
Mit den Niederlanden und Estland standen heute zwei Antipoden im Mittelpunkt der Diskussion auf der EVOTE08, der internationalen Konferenz zu elektronischen Wahlen, die derzeit im Zentrum für Wissenschaft und Weiterbildung auf Schloss Hofen in Bregenz stattfindet. Die Niederlande, die als erstes Land Europa flächendeckend Wahlcomputer einführten, haben sich im Gefolge des Nedap-Hack vom Oktober 2006 von der elektronischen Stimmabgabe verabschiedet und kehren auf absehbare Zeit zu Papier und Stift zurück. Estland sieht sich weltweit als Vorreiter von Internetwahlen und hat die Stimmabgabe über das Internet bereits zweimal bei allgemeinen politischen Wahlen 2005 und 2007 eingesetzt.
Bei dem im Januar gestarteten europäischen E-Voting-Wettbewerb sind heute zum Auftakt der Konferenz EVOTE08 in Bregenz aus insgesamt acht eingereichten Beiträgen drei Sieger gekürt worden, die zusammen das Preisgeld von 5000 Euro erhalten, das die Internet Privatstiftung Austria (ipa) zur Verfügung stellte. Die Stiftung erhofft sich davon einen Beitrag zu mehr Partizipation auf politischer Ebene. Durchgeführt wurde der Wettbewerb vom österreichischen Kompetenzzentrum für elektronische Wahlen und Partizipation (E-Voting.CC).
Begleitet vom üblichen Bitkom-Gesumm über schlimme Verzögerungen bei der elektronischen Gesundheitskarte (eGK) begann in München die von Euroforum veranstaltete Tagung zur Zukunft der Vernetzung im Gesundheitswesen recht durchwachsen. Während ein Vertreter des Gesundheitsministeriums vor allem die Mehrwertdienste lobte, die mit der neuen Karte kommen werden, lieferte ein Vertreter der Rhön Klinikum AG als Fan der Gesundheitskarte eine formidable Generalkritik der Telematik ab, die mit der eGK ins Haus steht.
Während in Ulm der 111. Ärztetag mit einer bewegenden Rede von Horst-Eberhard Richter über das Humane in der Humanmedizin eröffnet wurde, erörterten die IT-Spezialisten in München andere medizinische Themen. Zum Auftakt der zweitägigen Konferenz referierte Christoph F.J. Goetz vom Bundesgesundheitsministerium. Er lobte das eGK-Projekt als ein Unternehmen, "das weltweit seinesgleichen sucht" und betonte die Kostenminderung durch reduzierte Notarzteinsätze, Arztkontakte und Krankenhausaufenthalte, die mit der Karte möglich seien. Zu den dramatischen Effekten, die mit Einführung der Gesundheitskarte möglich werden, zählte Goetz Mehrwertdienste, die ab 2018 den weitaus größten Teil der Netzlast im kommenden Gesundheitsnetz ausmachen werden. Er zeigte eine Grafik, nach der diese Dienste im Jahr 2025 das Vierzigfache der Pflichtanwendungen und der freiwilligen Anwendungen bei der elektronischen Gesundheitskarte ausmachen werden.
