EDUCAUSE Quarterly Magazine, Volume 32, Number 1, 2009 By Elizabeth J. Aspden and Louise P. Thorpe Learning environment development has been a key part of the Academic Innovation Team’s remit for a number of years at Sheffield Hallam University (see About Us). Beginning with our research into the impact of e-learning on the student experience in 2002 — and recognizing the way e-learning influenced students’ views of physical spaces — we started to look more closely at the ways in which our students and faculty use on-campus spaces, and at ways in which our environments needed to evolve. A recurring theme that emerged was the importance of serendipitous meetings and the ad hoc use of those "in between" times: in between taught sessions, in between focused study, in between study and home.

One of the first, lame criticisms of Apple's iPad was that it would only be useful for consuming content, not creating it.
Wrong!
Sure, the iPad is great for reading web pages and watching videos. But it has also become a very potent, very cool device for being creative.
Its creative use cases range from a DJ kit -- that's iPad DJ Rana Sobhany pictured -- to a tool for making amazing illustrations and music.
And app developers and artists are creating new uses all the time. Let us know if we've missed something cool.

‘320 and Up’ starts with a tiny screen stylesheet that contains only reset, colour and typography styles. Media Queries then load assets and layout styles progressively and only as they’re needed. Think of this as responsible responsive design.

Describes the need of having a highly reliable and efficient mean of communication between soldiers on the battlefield. Although this solution is using some external wide area connectivity it mostly depends on local one, this is achieved with the introduction of 4G technology as a support to MANET. This is why it is more reliable than other solutions, and on the battlefield reliability plays a major factor in the result of the battle.

Although the process of usability testing a mobile app is the same as when testing a desktop app, there are quite a few differences in the details. Adjust your test to take account of these differences and you'll be better placed to identify the real problems that real users will have with your app when used in an authentic context.
