Query log data for ad targeting
A WWW2006 paper out of Microsoft Research, "Finding Advertising Keywords on Web Pages" (PDF), claims that query log data is particularly useful for ad targeting.
Specifically, the researchers extracted from MSN query logs the keywords some people used to find a given page. They tested using that as one of many features for ad targeting. In their results, it was one of the most effective features.
Very interesting. It has always been harder to target ads to content than to search results because intent is much less clear.
By using the query log data in this way, the researchers were effectively using the intent of the searchers that arrived at the page as a proxy for the intent of everyone who arrived at the page.
Visualization is a technique to graphically represent sets of data. When data is large or abstract, visualization can help make the data easier to read or understand. There are visualization tools for search, music, networks, online communities, and almost anything else you can think of. Whether you want a desktop application or a web-based tool, there are many specific tools are available on the web that let you visualize all kinds of data. Here are some of the best:
A pre-relational databases datamodel. "Preceeded" by the relational model since the flexibility of this makes it hard to work with. Now re-invented in RDF :)
Stock Cloud began as data mining experiment with a very simple goal — "Could we extract Business Partnerships by tracking press releases?" To accomplish this we selected a press release distribution agency, MarketWire, and began tracking releases. Usi
DiskWarrior is the most highly decorated Mac disk repair utility ever. It repairs disks that no other program can repair. New hardware monitoring helps protect your data from drive malfunctions.
Windows Data Recovery Software tool recover deleted files and damaged data from deleted, corrupted or formatted FAT, FAT16, FAT32, NTFS and NTFS5 partitions.
What makes something “Information Visualization?” Is it just visual titillation? Or is it a tool that interprets, analyzes, and facilitates deeper understanding of data?
Walking a neighborhood, study subjects wear a Galvanic Skin Response (GSR), which is a simple indicator of the emotional arousal in conjunction with their geographical location.

How It Works TrackMeNot runs in Firefox as a low-priority background process that periodically issues randomized search-queries to popular search engines, e.g., AOL, Yahoo!, Google, and MSN. It hides users' actual search trails in a cloud of 'ghost' quer
Weka 3: Data Mining Software in Java
Weka is a collection of machine learning algorithms for data mining tasks. The algorithms can either be applied directly to a dataset or called from your own Java code. Weka contains tools for data pre-processing, classification, regression, clustering, association rules, and visualization. It is also well-suited for developing new machine learning schemes.
