The structure of the traditional term paper can limit its educational value. To make the assignment more meaningful, students published their papers in Wikipedia. This session will examine how publishing for a large online community motivated students t

Scientists are busy, busy people. They don't have time to spend hours on every paper they need to know about. It's essential to learn how to read a paper quickly but insightfully, because otherwise you'll become lazy and uncritical. Most papers, you'll probably read quickly as outlined below. On papers of great interest to your work, you can then drill into an in-depth review of the whole paper.
Medieval source-based textual scholarship is arguably blessed
by the internet. Scholars can exchange paleographic, codicological and
other philological information on listservs like MEDTEXTL. They can work in
teams, examining text and digitized color photographs shared as e-mail
attachments, or as file transfers, in JPEG, GIF and other image formats
on web pages, debating the significance of a serrif, a minim, or
evidence of a trimmed manuscript page. They can exchange MIDI, MP3 and
other audio files for editions interpreting manuscripts of musical
scores. The distance separating team members is little relevant and
they are as mobile as their digital communication devices.
In addition, textual scholars can produce critical editions on the web
which would not be given due consideration by traditional paper
publishers, not because of quality or of methodological soundness, but
simply because of the money involved in producing critical editions
that are fully appropriate for a variety of readers, and which take
advantage of the enormous amount of relevant information available in
our time. These editions will certainly enhance the reader's ability to
judge the validity of an editor's choice of manuscripts or readings.
My working life consists of thinking, reading, writing and talking about philosophy. The idea of the website is to give information about the work I do and to make available unpublished articles, DVDs, etc. It is also to make available any stuff, previously published but now out of print, which might be worth preserving. When it was suggested that I should have a website, I wasn’t sure what it should be like. It has turned out that each section, as well as giving access to things I have written or videos of lectures or discussions I have been involved in, also has many thoughts, poems, etc by other people. The hope is that, if anyone comes to this site to track down something of mine, they may get interested in some of the other things collected under the same topic. I doubt if anyone would want to look through everything on the website. It is meant to be a changing online anthology for dipping into.

The Text Encoding Initiative (TEI) Guidelines have long been regarded as the de facto standard for the preparation of digital textual resources in the scholarly research community. For the beginner, they offer a daunting range of possibilities, reflecting the huge range of potential applications for text encoding, from traditional scholarly editions, to language corpora, historical lexicons, digital archives and beyond. Drawing on many examples of TEI-encoded text from a variety of research domains, this simple and straightforward book is intended to help the beginner make their own choices from the full range of TEI options. It explains the XML technology used by the TEI in language accessible to the non-technical reader and provides a guided tour of the many parts of the TEI universe, and how it may be customized to suit an individual project’s needs. This work has been produced with the support of Labex Hastec.
This story is also the story of the decline and fall of the British university and the corruption of the academic ideal . That is why this essay carries two titles - a personal one and a social one.
