In Deutschland wird ein Großteil der Wissenschaft und Wissensproduktion durch die öffentliche Hand finanziert. Während die privatwirtschaftliche Aneignung und Nutzung des produzierten Wissens erwartet wird, sind die wissenschaftlichen Publikationen aber nur selten für den Steuerzahler frei verfügbar. Das muss sich ändern!
Die aktuelle und im Volltext online zugängliche Ausgabe von Aus Politik und Zeitgeschichte (APuZ) der Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung widmet sich – wohl anlässlich der Frankfurter Buchmesse – der “Zukunft des Publizierens“.
Von der Fan-Fiction über ein E-Book im Selbstverlag bis hin zum Verkauf der Rechte an große Verlage: Der Erfolg von "Fifty Shades of Grey" zeigt, welche Chancen das digitale Publizieren bieten kann. Self publishing wirft – je nach Blickwinkel – sein Licht oder seinen Schatten auf die künftigen Entwicklungen im Verlagsgeschäft. Eine weitere Herausforderung liegt in der gestalterischen Nutzung der neuen technischen Möglichkeiten: Wie lassen sich originäre Formen des digitalen Erzählens – über das enhancement von E-Books hinaus – schaffen? Die fortschreitende Digitalisierung von Inhalten und das illegale Herunterladen oder Teilen (sharing) von Textpassagen oder ganzen Büchern haben eine intensive Debatte um das Urheberrecht neu befeuert. Es gilt, die legitimen Interessen der Autorinnen und Autoren und ihrer Verlage zu schützen, aber auch veränderte Nutzungsgewohnheiten zu berücksichtigen, etwa beim gemeinsamen Lesen (social reading) oder beim kreativen Weiterbearbeiten eines Werkes.
